The Memory Repair Factory

This is the first fantasy novel by anime producer Tomohiko Ishii, who supported Toshi Suzuki in the production of Studio Ghibli films“Spirited Away” and “Howl’s Moving Castle.” Pipi, a young girl who has trouble making friends, stumbles upon a mysteriousfactory.  There she meets an impatient, ogre-like Zukki, the white-bearded master, Jisama, and Lady Ms-Mrs-Madam, who appears as a young girl in the morning, an adult in the afternoon, and an old woman at night.  This is the courageous story of Pipi, who along with her new friends stands up against the “black agent” who steals people’s memories and triesto shut down the factory.

This is the life work of author Ishii, who has been in love with reading, particularly fantasy, from an early age.  While reading the manuscript I was transported to the world of the characters, seeing vivid images in my head as if I were truly there.
