Summary:
Fasting, or "Danjiki" in Japanese, has been considered as something quite detached from everyday life. When people hear the word, they think of highly self-trained priests or religious legends such as Jesus Christ or Buddha leading ascetic lives. While this image is not wrong, Danjiki is actually much closer to the lives of ordinary people. When one feels ill, he/she loses appetite. Our body tells us not to eat because it is a part of natural healing process. Dr. Ishihara applies this in order to improve our health and has created what she calls a "Petit-Danjiki Diet."
Petit-Danjiki Diet is quite simple. All one has to do is to skip breakfast and drink ginger black tea instead. A lot of us have been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But Dr. Ishihara disagrees. The word "breakfast" derives from 2 words; "break" (interrupt) and "fast" (danjiki). When we wake up in the morning, we have not eaten since dinner from the day before. This is one form of fasting, and the meal right after Danjiki should be very light to avoid such conditions as vomiting and stomachache. If one does not feel like eating breakfast, it is perfectly okay to skip it. Also, to supply sugar that is needed to alert the brain, ginger black tea makes an ideal breakfast.
According to Dr. Ishihara, coldness, excess water, and pain have close relationships that eventually lead to many illnesses. For example, when we are in a cold place, we tend to get a headache, and when it rains, some people suffer from pain in their joints. Moreover, when we are wet with rain, our bodies get cold. It is not by chance that one of the most common sicknesses is called "cold." Many women that Dr. Ishii has treated had excess water in their bodies which slowed their metabolisms and lowered their body temperatures, causing such symptoms as obesity, skin irritation, and heavy menstrual pain.
Through Petit-Danjiki Diets, Dr. Ishihara illustrates a way to not only lose weight, but also to improve overall health with specific examples and actual accounts.
Dr. Ishihara stresses the power of ginger. In eastern medicine, ginger has played an important role. It is included as an ingredient in almost 70% of Chinese medicines, and it helps to keep our body temperatures warm, to relieve pain, to activate our organs, and to improve our metabolism. In India, where ginger was originally produced, it is regarded as "god's gift." It also works to sterilize, to detoxify, and to deodorize.
In addition, black tea has its own efficacies. It sterilizes, dissolves excess fat, decreases cholesterol in blood, and fights viruses. Caffeine helps to improve the circulation of blood, and black tea keeps our bodies warm, too. By combining the power of the 2 ingredients, Dr. Ishihara assures that this simple diet without any side effects does not fail. One will not be hungry or be tired of working out. All that is asked is to drink 2-6 cups of ginger black tea a day.
Making ginger black tea cannot be easier. You only need to add 1 to 2 teaspoons of grated ginger or its juice to a cup of black tea, prepared with hot boiling tap water, with honey or brown sugar. This diet starts with replacing breakfast with ginger black tea, but as one gets used to Petit-Danjiki, Dr. Ishihara can guide to fasting that lasts for a day or longer which helps to cleanse our body systems.
She has worked on Danjiki retreats outside Tokyo for over 20 years, where a lot of celebrities and even politicians come to find relaxation and better health. Today, we tend to overeat and consume more alcohol than needed. Petit-Danjiki Diet helps to simplify our complicated ways of life and leads our bodies to a healthier, more natural state.
